Reading Under the Stars
When I was in third grade and lived in the States, I got to experience Reading Under the Stars. It was an evening held at our school a couple of times a year, where students would come to school at night and get to read books, eat snacks and get lost in a different dimension. Everyone could either bring their own book or pick something new from the school library. I, for one, became better acquainted with the vast collection of books that skulked in the heart of our school thanks to these nights.
I also remember reading a particularly good book (unfortunately I can't recall the exact title) in this heavenly soft chair and eating chocolate. It's definitely one of the best memories I have from that elementary school which is why I dearly hope that this same tradition is still in use. Not only was it fun, relaxing and a totally exceptional school night, but it also gave everyone a possibility to find a love for literature and spend time with books. I think this is really important especially now a days, when children live in a more and more technology based world that might alienate them from the treasure of actual printed text.
Another great way of promoting books that I really enjoyed was the book fairs we used to have. I still miss the week-long chance to drool at new books at recess and buy them for a special book fair price. I wish we had more of these kinds of specialities in high school and secondary education overall.
I felt compelled to share this bookish memory of mine and would love to hear yours so type up a comment if one pops into mind.
