I'm always very proud when Finnish authors gain international recognition. And in this case, I'm especially excited since for once a Finnish YA novel is the one that has garnered attention; the Snow White series by Salla Simukka.

Firstly, the IBO found the first book to be "of literary value", which i think is a great honor. An excerpt from As Red as Blood was used in the IB Finnish exam!


Secondly, the book is being turned into a Hollywood movie. I really hope it will be filmed on location here in Finland, since I associate the story so heavily with its setting. Unfortunately, I doubt that will be the case.
