Throne of Glass
Everyone who knows me is aware that I love strong female
characters; both Sansa and Arya Stark from A Game of Thrones, Annabeth Chase
from Percy Jackson and the Olympians, and June Iparis from Legend. Reading
Throne of Glass, I found a new wonderful heroine to adore, Celaena Sardothien.
Throne of Glass is a young adult high fantasy novel, the
first in a series by Sarah J Maas. Celaena is an 18-year-old assassin, who’s
spent the past year in a prison camp. The world of Adarlan is corrupt and magic
has been outlawed by the king. The crown prince offers Celaena a chance to win
her freedom by competing for the title of the King’s Assassin.
Celaena, while an extremely capable assassin, doesn’t come
off as a one-dimensional character. Instead she acts like a regular teenager;
she shops a lot, enjoys fine dining, and tends to break the rules and get into
trouble. She is by no means perfect. Instead, she is real.
All in all, Throne of Glass is a stunning fantasy novel
filled with adventure, mystery and humor to boot.
