The Utopia Experiment

Ever since reading the Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, I've wondered how I'd survive in a similar survival situation. Most dystopian novels portray the main characters as navigating their worlds with barely a problem. Earlier this summer, I got a chance to see another side of this story.

While I was book shopping with a few friends we got stuck in the non-fiction section. I finally managed to decide on only one book: the Utopia Experiment by Dylan Evans. It described how his experiment of living as if modern society had fallen apart, backfired extremely. Rather than focusing on the practicalities of the experiment, even though that was described as well, but rather on the psychological effects the experiment had on Evans. The book showed that a modern layman might not be as successful in this type of scenario as one might hope. The book made me see the world very differently and it was the most thought provoking read so far of this year.

After finishing the Utopia Experiment I've been recommending it to everyone I've talked to for more than 15 minutes at a time, so I hope all of you at least check it out as well!
